Cyclone Vardah Wreaks Havoc in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh

According to media reports around 20 people have lost their lives so far. The impacts of the Super Cyclone was felt in Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chennai districts, where Chennai has borne most of the brunt. All educations Institutions in Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chennai districts remains closed for the 3rd consecutive day. Some shelters have been reported to be damaged in the outskirts of Chennai and surrounding villages. There is a severe shortage of cooked food and essential commodities mainly because of lack of drinking water.

CASA team initiated the first level of assessment yesterday in and around Chennai, where about 15 villages in North Chennai in the area for the landfall of Super Cyclone Vardah had taken place.  Around 8 villages have been identified for feeding, covering a population of 3000 person (750 families). Yesterday, food was served at one place by CASA team viz., Sengaiamman Nagar.
