16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

The 16 days of Activism campaign against Gender-Based violence follows the 2020 UNiTE campaign theme ‘Orange the world : Fund , Respond , prevent , collect’ which is an apt and relevant theme that shall be focused across the globe by women’s  groups, feminist organisations, gender-justice fraternity, faith groups , civil society organisations and corporate women leaders to once again reiterate that the violence against women and gender-based discrimination should end. This has been a  special campaign as United Nations Secretary Generals Campaign. This year it becomes all the more relevant and critical as the Covid-19 Pandemic reports showed an alarming increase in the already existing pandemic of violence against women/ gender minorities, widely termed as the ‘Shadow pandemic’.

Beginning on the 25th of November,2020, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women and runs until 10th December,2020, that marks the Human Rights Day, this is one more occasion to remind Church, church related institutions, communities, civil societies and corporates that violence against women and sexual minorities can’t go on. We have to make the issue of ‘violence against women’ a history during our life time and focus on the agency of women and sexual minorities which have the power to transform this world into a beautiful place. The 16 days of activism was started by activists at the inaugural of Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be co-ordinated each year, by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership. This is to call for prevention and elimination of violence against women, girls and sexual minorities.
